FAQ

Why aren't more filmmakers using crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding sites are great because they allow you to reach out directly to potential investors.

Most filmmakers don’t believe they have the right to ask for money. They feel they need someone else who can vouch for them.

Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.

Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.

What is the cost of distributing a feature-length film?

A distribution deal typically costs between $100,000 and $150,000.

Theaters cost an average of $10,000.

Screens are typically around $5,000 in cost.

It means that, if you have 100 screens your distribution fees would be $500,000.

Distributor fees of $50,000 would apply if there are ten screens.

Why is Hollywood calling it Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith was the one who founded California's first film industry. It was named for its Los Angeles location, also known as Hollywood at that time.

The name stuck because it was such an exciting place for people to visit. People would come from all over just to see what was happening there.

Hollywood is still a part of our culture today. There are movies, TV shows, music videos and commercials. All of them are called "Hollywood."

What is the difference among a producer or distributor?

The movie is made by a producer. The distributor distributes the movie. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors will need to negotiate with theatre owners about the location of their movies. This means that some theaters may charge more to see a certain movie than others. A distributor should have multiple theaters in order to ensure that your movie is seen by as many people possible.

How To

How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove the name of your from the list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
