FAQ
How many movies makes Hollywood each year?
Hollywood studios produce about 3,000 films each year. Three thousand!
These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions producing them. They spend millions to promote them. However, how many actually make it to the theaters?
It's probably between 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ additional films? They are either distributed as direct-to–video releases or simply left in storage.
But not all of them are destined to go unseen. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.
Hence why don't more of these films be released? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? Because they are too expensive to make.
They'd also be cheaper to produce and released in theaters.
This is where I come in. I'll help you find the best way for your film to be released in theaters.
I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.
Let's face facts...
Getting your film into theaters can be quite difficult. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.
You may end up spending a lot of money before you get started.
It is even more difficult to distribute your film within a limited timeframe.
There's not enough time between the moment a film is completed and its theatrical debut.
What is the difference among a producer or distributor?
Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. The movie is distributed via a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then sell them on to theaters or cable channels, as well as streaming services.
Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
How many theaters do I need to make back my investment?
It depends on how long you plan to run your theatrical release.
If you're planning to run your film for less than two weeks, you only need to open one theater.
If your film will run for more that two weeks, at least two theatres are necessary.

How To
How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.
Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.
To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name from this list.
How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?
Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Your family members can nominate you for a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.
Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?
The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
