FAQ

What is the difference of a producer and distributor?

The movie is made by a producer. The distributor distributes the movie. Producors have the option to sell movies directly to distributors or theaters. Distributors can buy movies from producers. Distributors then sell the movies to theaters, cable networks, and streaming services.

Distributors should negotiate with theater owners regarding where their movies are playing. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. Distributors with multiple theaters are a good choice if your movie needs to be seen by as many people.

How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays artists or organizations whose applications were accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove you from the list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why can't people choose to use a different street than having stars all over the place?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
