FAQ

How much do actors make?

Pay for actors can range from $1 million to $100,000 per film, or less than $100,000 for independent films. The average actor receives between $10,000 and $20,000 for a film. Many actors don't get paid. It depends on how successful an actor is. Actors can make millions, while others have trouble finding work.

Why are there so few independent films that get released?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.

However, this is seldom the case. Independent filmmakers are often used by distributors.

They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

What happens to my film if it doesn't do well in the box office?

Several things could happen if your film performs poorly at the box office.

You might first decide to modify the way you market your movie.

The script might be rewritten.

Third, you may decide to add characters.

Fourth, you might decide that some characters should be removed

Fifth, it is possible to decide to end the scene.

Sixth, you might decide that the film wasn't worth making.

How many theaters are necessary to make my investment back?

It depends on how much time you intend to keep your theatrical release running.

If your film is going to be run for less then two weeks, one theater will suffice.

Two theaters are required if your film will be shown for more than two weeks.

What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?

The movie is made by a producer. The movie is distributed by a distributor. Producors have the option to sell movies directly to distributors or theaters. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.

Distributors must negotiate with theater owners where their movies will be shown. This can mean that different theaters may charge different prices for a movie. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.

What is the difference in an indie film and one made in a foreign language?

A single filmmaker usually makes an independent film. He or she makes all the decisions.

On the other side, a foreign-language film is normally produced by an even larger production team.

They often hire actors, authors, and directors who are from other countries.

To ensure the dialogue sounds natural, professional translators are also hired.

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once an artist has received their star, he/she is eligible to be listed in the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
