How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it.
