How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
